Old Christians 36 vs Ennis 7

Ennis * NOTE game changed to next Sun*, 14:30PM

Promoted

Ennis 7 Old Christians 36
Christians began this game with a strong diagonal wind helping them and were straight out of the blocks. Moving the ball quickly, we were a penalty up after two mins and Stuart Lee had a try after five mins. Aidan Tobin's conversion put us ten ahead.
Tobin and Mossy Murnane used the strong wind to pin the home side back and things looked good for us. The scores however dried up as Ennis began to get a foothold in the game. On the 25 min mark, the Bannermen mauled perilously close to our line, before a fine Peter Twomey turn over ended the danger.
In the minutes leading up to half time however, we again got on top and used our maul to good effect. We drove deep into the home 22, and 15 metres out, Paul Mc Grath peeled of the back of the ruck to steal over. Just before the break, we again mauled deep in the home 22. This time, Stuart Lee took control and a fine pass put Gavin Murphy in for Aidan Tobin to convert.
Twenty two nil up at the break, we just needed to keep our composure. It took 25 minutes for the bonus point try to come when Alan O'Connell supplied the pass for Aidan Ware to touch down and Aidan Tobin again added the points.
The iceing on the cake arrived, when a fine break by Alan O' Connell, saw Alan O'Dea in support and the big second row crashed over for Tobin to again convert.
Ennis finally got on the score sheet with a couple of mins to go with a converted try.

We now top the table on 40 points, with Clanwilliam 2nd on 37 and Galbally 3rd on 35.
We meet Clanwilliam in the final league game in two weeks time. Promotion is assured as we have beated Galbally in the head to head. However it would be nice to bring a trophy back to Rathcooney, however as you can see, any one of the top three teams could be champions. Galbally play St. Mary's in their last game and they would hope for 5 points from that. It that case a draw would not be enough for Clanwilliam, it's all to play for.

Paul McGrath peels from the back of the maul and (inset) touches down for our 2nd try.
