Old Christians 45 vs Carrigaline/Douglas 0

Rathcooney, 12:30PM

Old Christians hosted Douglas/Carrigaline on a crisp dry Saturday morning on 6th of October. As the first game of the league a good start was important. At 12.30 the game got underway with Douglas/Carrigaline winning the coin toss and opting to kick off.

The first half was pretty even with both sides attacking in turn. Old Christians finally converted one of their attacks into a try scored by Ben Mahon. Minutes earlier Oscar had scooped the ball up from the back of the ruck and dived for the line, unfortunately it was judged to be held up. Undaunted Old Christians went back for the scrum and within a few moves Ben finally broke through to score, unfortunately John didn’t convert there was a very strong wind and he needed assistance to keep the ball on the kick stand. The rest of the half remained scoreless and Old Christians headed to the break 5-0 up.

John took the ball for Old Christians one and only restart of the second half. What a thrilling second half the boys played really well. Oscar took over kicking to touch duties and equipped himself well there. John also converted all but one of the tries in the second half there were 6 in all. The tries were scored by Josh after only 10 min of the restart followed by Oscar and Akram. Cathal playing at 6 capitalised on the opposition mistake of slapping the ball back to their team mates he scooped it up and scored two tries from two line out. The final try was scored by Akram finished by John with a conversion. Bringing Johns place kicking scoring to 5 out of 7. In the dying minutes of the game Douglas/Carrigaline had a line out which we turned over and off the back of a subsequent scrum Connor got the ball and kicked it into touch to end the game at 45-0.

Excellent start to the league off to Muskerry next Saturday.
