Old Christians 24 vs Killarney 15

Rathcooney, 14:30PM

We entertained Killarney in our first post Christmas League game, on a windy day
and a soft pitch today. It is probably fair to say that we were favorites going
into this game, but we were rocked back on our heels when the Kerry side took an early
 five point lead.
Despite some powerful runs from Skipper Alan O'Dea and Alan O'Connell, the visitors
held their lead until five minutes before the break.
Sean Meaney picked up a loose clearance, just outside the Killarney twenty two,
switched  direction and when the ball was fed to Jeff Hodder, the winger still had
a lot to do, but he showed great composure to squeeze in at the corner.
We had the wind in the secong half and immediately took the lead. The ball popped out of a
ruck in the visitors twenty two and Skipper Alan O'Dea was first to react and he crossed by
the posts, making Ryan's conversion a formality.
Eleven minutes later, Skipper O'Dea grabbed his second try, as he burst over from a lineout.
Five minutes on, the bonus point was secured, when Eoin Murnane dived over for our fourth
score, with Ryan again adding the points.
In fairness to the visitors, they kept plugging away and with Alan O'Dea off the field injured,
they scored two late tries, to leave the final score at 24 to 15 points for the home side.
We travel to high flying Crosshaven next Sunday and will need to step up a gear as the seasiders
 currently top the table.

 Some match pictures.

Crunch time as Alan O'Connell makes his tackle.

Ball of the top.

Eoin grabs the bonus point try.

Sam gets there.

Alan takes his lineout.

Injury forced Alan off, but not before he grabbed two tries.

He probably needed someone taller on his right to help him off.
