Emily O'Connell,
President 2017/2018
I am delighted and honored at having been elected Club President of Old Christians Rugby Football Club for the 2017/18 term. it is with enormous pride I take on this role, representing our Club, the only Rugby Club situated on the north-side of the city. My fifteen year involvement in our Club began as a parent supporting on match days and helping with Club events. I feel it is a credit to the Club Committee in recognizing and acknowledging the importance of Parent contribution to Club life by electing me to the office of President. Last season we had a very young J1 team who experienced a very challenging year. However, they continued to play courageously, building on their skills with bravery, passion and determination right through to the end of the season.
Last seasons' challenges will stand to them as they head into this coming season. We wish them well and acknowledge the continuing hard work and commitment necessary, both on and off the pitch, from each team member to ensure their future team success. Youth Rugby continues to thrive with all Youth teams ending last year's season in Finals.
The Mini Rugby Group continues to grow, both in numbers and in their enthusiasm for the sport and our Club. It is the third season for our Girls Rugby Group. This is an ongoing project that is growing and improving year on year. Each and every one of our players, from our Minis to our J1s, are fortunate to be managed by a group of truly capable and committed coaches who give their all in the pursuit of developing first rate safe rugby skills for all ages groups. Without their continued support and dedication, our Club would not be the success that it is today.
We have a fabulous facility at Rathcooney and this year we are opening our new 4G training pitch which will be a great resource for our players. Our coffee shop, run by our Ladies Group, continues to open at weekends. They provide a warm and friendly environment where players, parents and supporters are welcomed and catered to.
I extend in advance a warm welcome to teams, supporters, parents and match officials who will visit Rathcooney this coming season and wish all our teams a very successful and exciting season.
Finally, I wish to acknowledge our great Club - it is our Club, comprising of all of the parts - players, coaches, committee members, parents and supporters! Our future success, on and off the pitch and our growth as a club hinges on our continued contribution and engagement in Club life. By working together supporting our club we will see our Club, Old Christians, reach its full potential.
