A cold wind blew towards the Youghal Clubhouse end as this game kicked off.
The home side had first us of it, but we started well. Crisp handling by the backs, saw Craig crash over for the opening score on eight minutes.
We made light of the elements and Alan O’Dea got in for a second try on 23 minutes. Laz again converted and we were 14 points to nil ahead.
We were awarded two penalties before the break and more sensibly than in some previous games, we took our points to lead 20points to nil at the break.
With the strong wind now at our backs, perhaps we though it was already all over.
Youghal had other ideas and within a minute of the restart, the cut the lead with a converted try.
We held steady however and we finally began to use the wind to pin the home side in their own twenty two.
With a half an hour on the clock, the excellent Matt, got over for a fine try. Laz’s convertsion took the score to 27 points to 7 and that’s the way it finished, although it took fine work by Jeff Hodder and later a great tackle by Smythie to keep Youghal at bay.
We did not get the bonus point, but with such a shallow squad, injuries and tiredness took it’s toll and we saw out the game.
