I had a 4 1/2 round trip to get to this game today, but it was well worth it.
We had to field without Sisky and Daniel O’Manony and when we conceded a penalty from the kick off,
things did not look too good.

John Marnell levelled with a fine kick on twenty five minutes, then both teams swopped penalties around the
half hour mark as most of the game was played in the middle third of the field.
On thirty five minutes, a home player received a straight red card, but Mary’s shrugged this off, to take the lead with a third penalty kick.

Just on the half time whistle, came the best moment of a dreary first half.
A perfect line out, the ball out the backs and Jimmy Ahearne backed himself to make the line which he duly did.

We led by 13 points to 9 at the break, but we burst from the traps at the restart.

Craig made a break through the middle, and found Nibbler on his shoulder and the second row crashed over for a fine try.
The home side had a penalty within minutes, to leave the score at 20 points to 12, before Ado won a penalty at the breakdown and John duly added the points.

The game was over on the 15th minute mark, when another Craig break, saw Laz on his shoulder and the no. 10 duly scored.

John Converted again.

We probably forced things a little as we went for for the bonus point, as we sometimes went gung ho, when we could have settled things, and been a bit more patient.

John Marnell’s growing maturity as a player stood out in this phase of the game, as he kicked to the corner flag a number of times, to pin the home side back when nothing was on.  It must also be said that the quality of the chase on those kicks caused the home side problems.

St.Mary’s did get in for a converted try just on the final whistle, but by then the game was over.

We conceded too many penalties in our enthusism , but tagann ciall le h-aois.

This was a fine team performance, with just about everyone playing well.

Craig made a number of fine breaks, Nibbler had his best game in ages and the old dogs Pump and Shane turned back the clock.

Our next league game is on the 24th of November, when we entertain Kanturk in Rathcooney.

FACT OF THE DAY.

SHANE BARRY GOT THROUGH THE WHOLE GAME WITHOUT NEEDING A BANDAGE OR EVEN A PLASTER.

IS THIS A RECORD ?

The League table, but we do have an extra game played over the 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams, still we’re happy.

Some match pictures.

Ado and Nibbler arrive on the scene.

Boom! as Laz hits a “miler”.

Cian takes.

Jimmy touches down, I think Craig is happy.

John gets the evil eye as he joins the line out.

Turning the screw, John kicks for position.

Nibbler crashes over, as Shane nearly gets there.

Laz scores as Craig and his new best friend discuss the weather.

Nibbler takes.

Sam and Pump, (how did he get there?) offer support.

John strikes again.
