A very strong wind, blew towards the Town end as we kicked off this League game today. We faced the wind in the first half and the home side created an overlap within minutes, before a smart Eddie Delahunt tackle snuffed out the danger.

We dominated the scrums early on and we are now in the position where we can rotate the front row, without weakening it.
Twelve minutes in we incurred a yellow card, but great defence meant we did not concede during that spell.

A solo break from Sam and another fine tackle from Eddie, lifted the spirits and on 35 minutes a John Marnell penalty opened the scoring.
Minutes later it got even better, when great forward pressure opened the way way for Laz to go over for a fine try.
John added the conversion and we turned over 10 points to 0 at the break.

We now had an even stronged wind at our backs and five minutes in, Taz again got over, with John again adding the points.
We were now ahead by 17 points to 0, before another lazy tackle saw us suffer a second yellow card, but we were still comfortable.
We were however not inclined to kick the ball from defence, despite now being backed by a gale and from one of these occasions, the home side got on the front foot and twenty five minutes in, got an unconverted, but easily avoided try.

It is NOT A SIN to kick the ball in defence. With the wind that was there today, it was quiet easy to kick the ball 70 metres in the second half and please think of Sob’s blood pressure.
Thirty minutes gone and John added another penalty to leave us 20 points to five ahead and while Cobh added another unconverted try with the last move of the game.
This was a good display, with our defence proving to be the difference.

The younger lads are starting to make their mark on the team, while veterans like Shane Barry and Pump provide much needed leadership.
It would not be fair to pick a man of the match today as there were too many contenders.

Next up is a visit to Castleisland for a Junior Clubs Challenge Shield game, but as we are also due to visit them in the league on the 8th of Dec, the Munster Branch is talking about doubling up the fixture.
We will let you know as soon as we know.

Some match pictures.

Cian takes a lineout.

No way out.

Not quite to plan.

Perfect set back from Daniel.

A couple of grizzled veterans here.

Shane first to the breakdown, how did that happen ?

Four out of four for John today.

Laz is totally obscured as he touches down.

Well set back again.
