Old Christians 36 Ballincollig 21
Because our pitches were waterlogged, this game was switched to Musgrave Park.
We started brightly here with a penalty for a Sisky turn over and minutes later John Marnell
opened our account with a fine penalty.
Fifteen minutes gone and a great cut-out pass from Craig, put Eddie in some space. He was tackled some two metres out, but a fine off-load saw Tim Hegarty touch down far out.
Within seven minutes however, Ballincollig hit back with a converted try on their first attack.
We were 8 pts to 7 up now, but we forced a number of scrum penalties five metres from the Ballincollig
line and the inevitable penalty try saw us now lead by 15 points to 7.
Five minutes before the break a great run by Eddie saw him taken out as he chipped ahead. Probably
deserved more than just a penalty, but justice was down just on the half time whistle, when Jimmy Ahearne intercepted to gallop over by the posts to give us a half-time lead of 22 points to 7.
With six minutes gone in the second half, Laz intercepted to score under the posts and at 29 points to 7, it looked done and dusted.
We had the bonus point at this stage and maybe took the foot off the pedal, but Ballincollig came back with a converted try.
There was a glimmer of home for the Mid Cork side and a fine attack was ended by Tim Hegarty tackling the Ballincollig winger into touch.
We kept the best wine for last, when some fine handling and off loading, saw Laz get his second try of the game.
Again Ballincollig came back for a converted try just on the final whistle, but in truth we were comfortable winners here.
A good win, that’s four from four now, but there are some tough games ahead.
