Our 18’s overcame another tough match on Saturday with a deserved semi-final victory in the Munster Club u18 Development Cup  – over Abbeyfeale RFC in extremely difficult conditions in Rathcooney on Saturday morning.

The weather threatened to be the winner here, however the match went ahead as we hosted a determined Abbeyfeale side who had overcome Young Munster in the quarter finals. It was a close, hard fought game which turned around at half time at 0-0. It was not a day for running rugby however a great period midway through the second half, Christians combined multi-phase attack by the forwards and with snappy thinking buy the midfield backs, they managed to manufacture a rare overlap to put wing, Rory McGrath over in the corner for a good try which was expertly converted by Tim Hegarty to make it 7-0 to the home team.

Christians enjoyed the ascendancy for long periods after that , and pressure yielded a penalty in the Abbefeale 22 which Tim Hegarty duly converted. At 10-0 it was a good lead but had to be defended for a period of Abbeyfeale attacks. However Christians dealt with all that was thrown at them only to concede a last minute try for the visitors. The final whistle sparked celebrations for the home side who have now reached our first Final of the season.

We acknowledge a huge effort and good game from an obviously disappointed Abbeyfeale side who later sent us a message of thanks for hospitality and wishing us well in the Final.

The Munster Final will be played at Irish Indepenant Park on the weekend of March 31st. Our opponents will be either Castleisland RFC or Ballincollig RFC.

The Match day squad was Ivan Tripp, Rory McGrath, Liam Carty, Euan Gallagher, Charlie Redmond (Capt) Tim Hegarty, Luke Egan, Paul Morey, Farid Latadjo, James Cliffiord, David O Connell, Alan Mc Donald, Jack Burke, Jamie Hayes, Daniel O Mahoney, Jake Overbury, Daniel Mulcahy, Stephen O Toole, Emmet Brosnan, Robert Collins, Conor Higgins, Alex Keily, Sean Sutton.

On another note the draw for the u18 South Munster Cup has been made and we host Skibbereen RFC in Rathcooney on Saturday April 13th KO 12.30.
