6TH game and final game of the league

Tough day at the office…

Old Christians travelled to Sundays Well on a crisp bright 5 degree Sunday morning. Just before they took to the field the sun went behind some clouds and stayed there and the threatened rain made an appearance near the end.

The boys were half defeated before they took to the field, our Captain Conor Drummy is out due to injury till Jan, and Ben Mahon is also out for 8 weeks so our numbers were depleted.  A little last minute jiggling around and the boys took to the field. Craig took over the number 8 spot and John took over the Captain duties. It was a tough battle from the beginning with playing going to and fro and nothing to show for time spent in the opposition’s territory.

Sundays Well were the first to get on the score board with a converted try. They went on to score a second try unconverted. All of our attacks came to nothing and the boys started bickering, blaming each other which never helps. The Well closed out the first half with another unconverted try the half time score was 17 – 0.

The second half saw a number of injuries and with only one substitute Gabriel who stepped up to the mark when needed. He came on first for Craig and then when Craig recovered he came on for Alex. We finally got our rolling maul to work and scored a very nice try from a line out, thanks to John’s kicking. Eoin was at the bottom of that group. The try was unconverted. Sundays well went on to score another 2 tries both converted.

We then suffered 2 further injuries with Alex already off we had no substitutes left when Gordon left injured we played on 14 v 15 but then Ben O’Donovan went off injured .

The boys however did not give up with Oscar bursting through the Well lines to score a try right between the posts in the dying minutes of the game; the conversion kicked by John was the last action of the game.

The boys came away disappointed with a final score of Sundays Well 31 – 12 Old Christians. We however have qualified for Pan Munster along with the under 18.5, so well done to everyone.

Fixtures will be announced soon. We do hope everyone takes the time to recover and are back fighting fit in January with full numbers.
