1st Pan Munster game.
The under 16s travelled to Bandon to face their old rivals this time on home ground and they got another schooling from Bandon. The Bandon team trotted in try after try they had learned a lot from playing us previously and put it into practice. For example every time Oscar had the ball he was surrounded by 3 or 4 Bandon players and whenever a Bandon player made a break he had a support runner with him the first runner would draw the tackle and then pop up the ball to the support runner and then he’d be gone. In total Bandon scored 14 tries all but 2 of them were converted. It was a tough day for the boys most of them never gave up and did us proud. Again they drew praise not only from their own coaches but also the opposition coaches came over to talk to Oscar and Conor to praise their work ethic and the effort they put in. One major thing is that Bandon played like a team, a well drilled team and they was always a support player running and they was always players straight into the rucks.
Early in the first half when we were only 12 points down John managed to break through and scored a lovely try between the posts which he then converted. However Bandon answered with a brace of Tries. The ref also made some dubious calls which all went Bandon’s way they were given an advantage they didn’t need. Bandon had also shuffled some players around they moved their number 8 to the wing and as a result of injuries we only had 15 players and had to play Gordon on the wing where he was facing a guy twice his size, Gordon never gave up and tried his best unfortunately he wasn’t able to stop his opposite number. We had most of our forwards back one or two were still injured so we were also forced to play Gab. Gabrielle has decided to quit rugby and we wish him well in the future in whatever other sport he decides to partake in. We have a lot of hard lesson to learn from this and going forward hopefully all the injured players will be back fighting fit and we can put on a better display than 54-7 score line we are a better team than that.
